One needs to be very careful while playing Holi with colors. This is because if color (chemical) accidentally enters the eyes, it can cause great harm to the eyes. We spoke to experts to know what to do if color gets into your eyes and what the initial steps should be.

Dr AK Grover, former HOD, Department of Ophthalmology at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, Delhi and Head of Vision Eye Center, Delhi It is said that while playing with colors on Holi, it is important to protect the eyes from colors. Because there are many colors which contain dangerous chemicals. These colors may include lead oxide, copper sulphate, heavy metals, acids, alkalis, mica, asbestos, talc, silica and ground glass. If these enter the eyes, they can cause eye allergies, irritation and even blindness in some severe cases.

What to do if Holi colors enter your eyes?

Dr. Grover says that first of all try not to play Holi with chemical colors. Even if you are playing, if you lose color during this time then follow some important things. First of all, wash the eyes with plenty of clean water. This will make it easier to remove color from the eyes. During this time, see if anything is pricking in the eyes or if so, then go to the hospital.

remove contact lenses

If you are wearing contact lenses, remove them immediately before washing your eyes. Contact lenses absorb harmful chemicals present in the color and store them. These chemicals keep leaking from the lens, causing long-term damage to the surface of the eyes.

After removing the lenses and washing your eyes, gently make your palms like cups and fill them with clean water. If drinking water is not available, tap water can be used. Lower your face gently and try to open your eyes in the water in your palms. Blink frequently and move your eyes around to help wash out the color.

Do not use handkerchief or tissue paper at all

Dr. Grover says that never use handkerchief or tissue paper to clean the eyes or remove any small particle. This can make the situation worse. If there is a wound in the eyes or any particle is felt, then in this case go to the hospital and consult a doctor. During this time, if you have any lubricating eye drops available, then put them in your eyes.
