NEET Paper Leak Case: What questions did the Supreme Court ask the Central Government on the NEET paper leak case? What big claim did the government make in the Supreme Court regarding NEET exam? What new security measures is NTA taking for the NEET-UG exam to be held on June 21?
The controversy surrounding NEET-UG, the country’s biggest medical entrance examination, has increased the concerns of lakhs of students and their families. The entire academic calendar of the students has been affected due to the cancellation of exams following allegations of paper leak. Now the echo of this matter has reached the Supreme Court, where the Central Government has clearly said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself is monitoring this entire matter.
During the hearing held in the Supreme Court on Friday, the court termed the paper leak as a very serious matter and told the government that the re-examination should be conducted with complete transparency and security. On this, the Central Government assured that extensive preparations are being made for the NEET-UG examination to be held on June 21.
Supreme Court expressed strong concern
During the hearing, the Supreme Court bench said that it is extremely worrying that the students had to face such a situation. The court asked the Central Government what concrete steps were taken to strengthen the examination system after the order given in 2024. This matter came up for hearing before the bench of Justice PS Narasimha and Justice Alok Aradhe. The court had already issued notice on the petitions and sought response from the National Testing Agency (NTA).

PM Modi himself is keeping an eye
Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing in the Supreme Court on behalf of the Central Government, said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is personally monitoring this entire matter. He told the court that changes are being made at many levels to conduct the examination in a fair and safe manner. The government also said that the security and monitoring system has been strengthened more than before to ensure that there are no irregularities in the re-examination.
Demand raised to remove NTA
After the paper leak controversy, many medical students and doctors have filed petitions in the Supreme Court. In these petitions, it has been demanded that the responsibility of an important examination like NEET should be given from NTA to a new and more reliable system. The petitioners say that the continuous irregularities have weakened the confidence of the students and there is a need for major reforms in the examination system.
High powered committee gave 60 suggestions
During the hearing, former ISRO chairman and head of the High Powered Committee, Dr. K. Radhakrishnan was also present in the Supreme Court. He told the court that the committee formed in 2024 had given a total of 60 suggestions to make the examination system secure and transparent. Radhakrishnan said that many of these suggestions have already been implemented and the 2025 examinations were conducted successfully. However, the NEET-UG 2026 controversy has again raised questions on the system.
Re-examination will be held on 21st June
NEET-UG exam was first held on May 3, but it was canceled after the paper leak controversy surfaced. Now the examination will be conducted again across the country on June 21. The government says that this time extra vigilance is being taken regarding monitoring of examination centres, digital tracking, question paper security and logistics.
Increased restlessness of students
The biggest impact of this entire controversy has been on lakhs of medical candidates. Many students are in a state of mental pressure and uncertainty. Candidates who have been preparing for the exam for a long time are now feeling stressed about the exam again. Education experts believe that merely conducting the examination again will not be enough, but it is also necessary to make permanent improvements in the examination system so that such incidents do not happen again in future.
Hearing will be held again in July
The Supreme Court has asked the Central Government to file a detailed reply. Now the next hearing of this case will be in the second week of July. Till then, the Center and NTA will have to present before the court complete information about the steps related to exam security. The NEET controversy is no longer just an exam issue, but has become a big question related to the credibility of the country’s examination system.
