Story of Holi related to Shiva-Parvati and Kamadeva

The story of Holi of Shiva-Parvati and Kamadeva is widely heard. According to the legend, Lord Shiva was meditating on Mount Kailash. Then Kamadeva reached there and distracted Shiva. After this, Lord Shiva got angry and opened his third eye and burnt Kamadeva to ashes. Kamdev’s wife Rati was deeply saddened by her husband’s death.

She prayed to Lord Shiva to bring her husband back to life. Lord Shiva accepted Rati’s request and gave life back to Kamadeva. Pleased with this, the Gods and Goddesses played with lots of colors on the full moon day of Phalgun month.

Holi story related to Radha-Krishna

An interesting mythological story related to Holi is also related to Radha and Shri Krishna. According to the story, Lord used to complain to his mother Yashoda every day that why is Radha so fair and I am so black. When he asked this every day, Yashoda Maiya told him to color Radha in the same color as you are, then the color of both of you will be the same.

On hearing this, God along with his group of friends arrived to apply colors to Radha Rani and her friends. Shri Krishna applied colors to Radha ji, friends applied colors to friends. Then Holi of colors started being played.

The story of Holi related to the demonic Dhundi

According to another story of Holi, there was a king named Prithu in a city. During his time there lived a demon named Dhundhi. His fear was everywhere. In fact, the demon Dhundhi used to eat children. No one was able to end it. Then the children made a plan to drive away the demon. On the full moon day of Phalgun month, the children lit a fire and threw mud on the demon and created a lot of noise.

Due to this the Rakshasi left the city and ran away. Due to freedom from the demon, happiness spread everywhere. People celebrated by applying colors on each other.
