Washington: Amid escalations of tensions in the Middle East, US President Donald Trump on Tuesday claimed that Iran wanted to talk but it was too late. Tensions increased in the Middle East after Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei was killed in a joint operation by the US and Israel last Saturday.
Since then, Iran has also targeted the military bases of Israel and the US. Apart from these, it has also constantly targeted other countries in the Middle East. Addressing a press conference on Monday, Trump had said that while earlier it was felt that the war might end by next 4-5 week, but now it might last longer.
Iran’s air defense, air force, navy, and leadership gone: Trump
“Their air defense, Air Force, Navy, and leadership are gone. They want to talk. I said, “Too Late!” Trump said in a Truth Social, while commenting on an opinion peace.
Iran continued to target the US establishment in the region, the latest being the US embassy in Saudi Arabia. Washington has started pulling several of its staff from the Middle East amid the crisis. On Tuesday, Israel sent its ground troops into Lebanon and explosions were also heard in the Iranian capital of Tehran.
Netanyahu defends decision to attack Iran
Defending the decision to attack Tehran, Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu said as per AP, “They started building new sites, new places, underground bunkers that would make their ballistic missile programme and their atomic bomb programme immune within months. If no action was taken now, no action could be taken in the future.”
“The reason that we had to act now is that after we hit their nuclear sites and their ballistic missile programme (in the 12-day war last year in June)… they started building new sites…underground bunkers that would make their ballistic missile programme and their atomic bomb programme immune within months,” he added
