Under this scheme, if a person applies for rearing a donkey, horse or camel, he will get 50 percent of the total cost of the project as subsidy. This means that if the cost of your project will be up to Rs 1 crore, then the government will give you assistance up to Rs 50 lakh. Apart from this, the states which will work to save the breeds of donkey, horse and camel will also get help from the Central Government. NML Scheme Terms and Conditions
The minimum unit for donkey rearing is 50 females and 5 males. The minimum unit for horses is fixed at 10 females and 2 males. Depending on the unit size of the camel, subsidy ranging from Rs 3 lakh to Rs 50 lakh can be given. The scheme is only for indigenous breeds and the subsidy is given in two instalments. The first installment will be given after getting the bank loan and the second after the completion of the project.
Government is also promoting donkey milk
The government is promoting donkey milk and the products made from it. FSSAI has also sought permission to include it in food items. Recently Baba Ramdev had also described donkey milk as delicious. This not only helps in saving the breed but also gives an opportunity to start a business.
