New Delhi: A senior selecter of Pakistan has resigned after their exit from the T20 World Cup from the super eight stage.
Aleem Dar tendered his resignation though the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is yet to respond to it.
“Former ICC elite panel umpire Dar has sent his resignation which is yet to be accepted,” a source told PTI on Tuesday.
Along with former Test players Asad Shafiq and Aaqib Javed, Dar formed PCB’s three-member selection committee.
Dar is apparently miffed with the considerable authority of head coach Mike Hesson in selection matters, deeming it undue.
“Aleem is very upset that when the World Cup squad was being selected he had resisted the inclusion of Babar Azam and Shadab Khan in the squad without any performance but Hesson insisted on having them,” the source said.
Hesson hasn’t faced any resistance from skipper Salman Ali Agha nor the other selectors in imposing his authority, which has surprised Dar.
“Aleem had also insisted that when Babar and Shadab could be called in without performance, Muhammad Rizwan should be included in place of Usman Khan because of his experience but no one supported him.”
Pakistan lost to arch-rivals India as well as getting beaten by England, while their super right stage against New Zealand was rained off.
It meant Pakistan failed to qualify for the semifinals despite beating Sri Lanka in their final Super 8s game.
Reports suggest that the underperformance of players have made not only PCB officials but also influential figures in the government upset.
