Meeting with Deputy Prime Minister Rikka Purra

Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal held separate meetings with Finland’s Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Rikka Purra and Economic Affairs Minister Sakari Pisto. The meetings discussed ways to strengthen bilateral economic ties and further promote trade and investment between the two countries through the proposed India-European Union (EU) Free Trade Agreement (FTA).

In a post on X, Goyal said he met Finland’s Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Rikka Purra and discussed strengthening economic and financial cooperation between the two countries. Goyal said, “It was a pleasure to meet Ms Rikka Purra, Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister of Finland. We discussed strengthening economic and financial cooperation, enhancing trade and investment ties and expanding cooperation in digitalization and emerging sectors.”

He said the two sides also “explored opportunities to further deepen India-Finland engagement under the India-EU FTA.”

Discussion with Economic Affairs Minister Sakari Pisto

In a separate post on X, Goyal said he had ‘fruitful discussions’ with Finland’s Economic Affairs Minister Sakari Pisto on expanding cooperation in several high-growth sectors. The Minister said, “Had a fruitful discussion with Shri Sakari Pisto, Minister of Economic Affairs of Finland. We discussed ways to deepen India-Finland cooperation in investment, innovation, R&D, startups and business partnerships.”

Goyal said the discussions also included cooperation in emerging technologies and strategic areas.

“We also explored cooperation in AI, 6G, quantum technologies, semiconductors, space and sustainability, and also discussed how the India-EU FTA can further strengthen trade and investment between our countries,” he said.

These meetings come at a time when India and the EU continue efforts to finalize a comprehensive free trade agreement, and both sides look to expand cooperation in trade, investment and emerging technologies. (ANI)
