New Delhi: A 48-year-old businessman, missing since February 18, was found brutally murdered. Police found pieces of his body in a canal in Mathura. Delhi Police has arrested four people including a woman in this sensational case. The name of the deceased is Anoop Gupta, who used to run the canteen in Chhattisgarh Sadan. He had gone missing with his white Kia Seltos car. What initially seemed to be a case of missing person, turned out to be the story of a horrifying crime.
Businessman used to wear heavy gold, kidnapped for this
According to the police, Anoop was fond of wearing heavy gold jewellery. It is alleged that his 29 year old friend Happy alias Suraj and his associates kidnapped him for money and then murdered him. When Anoop refused to pay the money and threatened to inform the police, his life was taken away. Anup was living in a house in Dwarka for the last one and a half month and was running a canteen for about two and a half years. His father lives in Faridabad, while his wife and son live separately. Speaking to TOI, a grief-stricken relative said, “We kept waiting in the hope that he would come back. But we had to bring the pieces of his body.”
Anoop’s brother had filed a missing report on 23 February. The family told that he had no enmity with anyone, but he was fond of wearing expensive gold rings and bracelets. According to the police, Happy had befriended Anoop about a year ago. During interrogation, she confessed that because of Anup’s jewelery and her living alone, she got greedy. He along with Bhupender (27), Balram (28), Neeraj and his partner Rakhi (21) planned the kidnapping and ransom.
On the night of the murder, Happy called Anoop to a flat on the pretext of a party. There everyone together controlled him, tied him up and beat him. When Anoop told that his gold was kept in his car parked in the canteen, the accused stole his car keys, took out the car and jewelery and returned to the flat. When they asked for more money and Anup refused, the accused allegedly stabbed him to death. To destroy the evidence, the accused sent messages from Anoop’s phone to his canteen staff asking them to close the canteen. He also messaged his family that he was holidaying in Goa and they should not be disturbed. To mislead the police, they allegedly placed his phone in a moving car to give a false location.
