Kitchen Hacks: Apples and potatoes turn black as soon as they are cut, adopt these methods to keep them fresh

Actually, as soon as they come in contact with air, the enzymes present in apples and potatoes react with oxygen, due to which their color turns brown or black. This is called oxidation. The good thing is that you can avoid this problem with some easy home remedies. Let us know 5 effective and easy methods. 
After cutting potatoes and apples, immediately put them in cold water with light salt. Keep it soaked for 10 to 15 minutes. This prevents the potatoes from changing color. 
If you want to keep the apple after cutting it, then after cutting it, apply lemon juice on it. Vitamin C present in lemon helps in preventing oxidation. This will not cause the apple or potato to turn black. If you want, you can add some lemon juice to water and dip it in it. 
If not to be used immediately, immerse the cut pieces completely in water. Make sure the water covers the pieces completely. It will be even better if you keep it in the fridge. This method maintains freshness for a few hours. 
Vinegar can also be used to keep potatoes fresh and clean. Mix 1 teaspoon white vinegar in 1 cup water. Dip the cut pieces in it for 5-10 minutes. Vinegar also slows down the process of oxidation and prevents color change. 

Apart from this, you should use only steel knife to cut fruits or vegetables. Rusty iron knives also affect the color of fruits and vegetables. By adopting these easy kitchen hacks, you can keep apples and potatoes fresh for a long time.
