Box office report: Can Malayalam film Thaai Kizhavi outperform The Kerala Story 2?

Box office collection: It’s a tight box office race this week as The Kerala Story 2: Goes Beyond, Thaai Kizhavi and O’ Romeo battle for audience attention. While one struggles to hold ground, another is quietly gaining strength, and the third is limping towards the finish line.

The Kerala Story 2 box office collection

After securing clearance from the Kerala High Court, The Kerala Story 2: Goes Beyond hit theatres on February 27. However, the sequel hasn’t matched the momentum of its 2023 predecessor.

The film opened with Rs 0.75 crore on Friday. Collections jumped to Rs 4.65 crore on Saturday and Rs 4.75 crore on Sunday, pushing the weekend total past Rs 10 crore. But Monday told a different story. According to Sacnilk, Day 4 earnings dropped to Rs 2.65 crore, taking the India net total to Rs 12.80 crore. Worldwide collection stands at Rs 15.1 crore.

In comparison, the first instalment earned Rs 45.5 crore in its first four days, including Rs 10.07 crore on its first Monday alone. On March 2, 2026, the sequel recorded an overall Hindi occupancy of 8.75%, signalling slowing footfall.

Directed by Kamakhya Narayan Singh and backed by Vipul Amrutlal Shah, the film stars Ulka Gupta, Aditi Bhatia and Aishwarya Ojha.

Thaai Kizhavi box office collection

Meanwhile, Radhikaa Sarathkumar’s rural comedy drama Thaai Kizhavi is showing resilience. Released on February 27, the film earned Rs 2.65 crore on Day 1. Weekend growth followed, with Rs 5 crore on Saturday and Rs 6.15 crore on Sunday. According to Sacnilk, the film’s net collection in India is Rs 16.55 crore, and its worldwide collection is Rs 25.1 crore.

On Monday, early estimates suggest collections of around Rs 2.75 crore. That pushes the total to Rs 16.55 crore so far. The film recorded 24.43% Tamil occupancy on Monday, with night shows peaking at 30.49%.

Directed by Sivakumar Murugesan, the film has gained from positive word-of-mouth and minimal competition. Audiences have praised its emotional storytelling and humour, calling it a wholesome family entertainer.

O’ Romeo box office collection

Shahid Kapoor’s gangster drama O’ Romeo, directed by Vishal Bhardwaj, continues to underperform. On Day 18, the film earned Rs 0.65 crore, bringing its India total to Rs 65.80 crore. Worldwide collections stand at Rs 101.75 crore, as per Sacnilk.

Despite a strong opening weekend, the film couldn’t sustain momentum. Monday occupancy dropped to 8.42% in Hindi markets.
