US-Israel-Iran war: Israel’s military said it had attacked and taken down the main headquarters of Iran’s state radio and television broadcaster. At the same time, a commander from Iran’s Revolutionary Guards announced on Monday that the Strait of Hormuz had been closed.
US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth described the operation as a “clear, devastating, decisive mission” aimed at eliminating Iran’s missile threat, crippling its navy and ensuring there are “no nukes.”
Iran has pledged to avenge the death of its Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who was killed in Israeli strikes during a joint US-Israel military operation last week. After confirming his death on Sunday, Tehran launched retaliatory attacks targeting the UAE, Kuwait, Qatar and Bahrain, further intensifying tensions in West Asia.
With the conflict pushing the region closer to a full-scale war, something Iran had warned the US and Israel about, US President Donald Trump said the bombing of Iran is likely to continue for another”four to five weeks”.
Iran, however, maintained that it will keep defending itself. Senior security official Ali Larijani accused Trump of driving the Middle East to the edge of war through what he called “delusional ambition.”
