According to Udaya Tithi, today is the full moon day of Snan-Daan. In such a situation, Holika Dahan could be done even today, but the Sutak period of lunar eclipse will start from 06.20 am today. Then the lunar eclipse will start from 03:20 in the afternoon, which will last till 06:46 in the evening. This eclipse will be visible in India also. Therefore its importance has increased even more.

This evening the lunar eclipse is ending at 06:46 pm. Today, the full moon date of Phalgun month will end at 05:07. Since Holika Dahan is done on the full moon day of Phalgun month, Holika Dahan was also done on 02 March. According to pundits, the full moon will end today even before the eclipse ends.

Story of Holika Dahan
The story of devotee Prahlad is the basis of the festival of Holika Dahan. According to the legend, Hiranyakashyap’s sister Holika had received a boon from Lord Brahma that she would not be burnt by fire. That is why Hiranyakashyap asked his sister to take his son Prahlad and sit on the fire. So that Prahlad can be killed. As per the instructions of Hiranyakashyap, Holika sat in the fire with Prahlad in her lap, but she herself got burnt. Prahlad was saved by the grace of Lord Vishnu.
