The driver identified as G Tarun, a resident of Narsingi, was booked for driving rashly, ramming another vehicle and driving away even when the constable was on the bonnet. The police also booked him in an attempt to murder case.
He was arrested and sent to judicial custody on Sunday, Gachibowli said. They said it was Tarun’s birthday on Saturday and his blood alcohol levels were beyond the permissible levels (160 mg/100 ml). The permissible limit is 30 mg/100 ml.
How did the policeman end up on the bonnet of the car?
When alerted about the incident, the constable on duty, E Venkateswarlu tried to stop the vehicle at IIIT Junction. The young man indicated that he was about to stop the car but he suddenly hit the accelerator, and the policeman jumped on to the bonnet to avoid being hit by the vehicle, Gachibowli police said.
The accused drove the car in a zig zag manner for about 800 km, when motorists and bikers intervened and got him to stop the vehicle. They later handed him over to the police.
The police constable escaped with a few minor injuries. The police said that Tarun started partying from the early hours of Saturday and the accident took place when he was on his way to his friend’s house.
