New Delhi: Team India spinner Varun Chakravarthy dismissed Shai Hope with a cracking delivery in the must-win Super 8 clash of the T20 World Cup 2026 at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Sunday, March 1. The West Indies got off to a great start after being asked to bat first by Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav.
Shai Hope and Roston Chase forged a 68-run partnership off just 53 balls for the opening wicket. Chase looked good and played freely, but skipper Hope struggled at the other end. The Indian players also made a few errors on the field as Chakravarthy missed a run-out chance in the 3rd over and Abhishek Sharma dropped a simple catch of Chase in the fifth over.
But the Men in Blue finally got their first breakthrough of the match as Varun Chakravarthy removed Shai Hope for 32 off 33 balls in the 9th over. The batter stayed on the leg-side to access the off-side, but the ball skidded off the pitch and came in with the angle. It sneaked under the bat to hit the middle stumps.
