There has been news of a stampede like situation amid the huge crowd during the Rath Yatra of Lord Jagannath in Puri, Odisha. According to initial information, one devotee has died in this accident, while many other people are said to be injured. However, official confirmation has not been issued yet by the district administration. After the incident, security arrangements have been further tightened in the entire area.
How did the situation worsen amid the huge crowd?
According to preliminary information, lakhs of devotees had reached Puri to have darshan of the chariots of Lord Jagannath. Meanwhile, the pressure of the crowd suddenly increased, leading to a stampede-like situation. Many devotees fell in the chaos, while some collided with the barricades installed on the roadside.
Police, security forces and relief teams reached the spot immediately after the incident. The injured were taken to the nearest hospital via ambulance, where their treatment is ongoing. According to hospital sources, one devotee has died, while several others are injured.

Discussion of second deceased, but no official confirmation

This incident has reminded us of the tragic accident that occurred during the 2025 Rath Yatra. Last year, three devotees, including two women and a man, were killed in a stampede near the Gundicha temple, while more than 50 people were injured.
This time too, after the accident, a crowd of family members has gathered outside the hospital and the condition of all the injured is being monitored. The administration has appealed to the people not to believe in rumors and to believe only the official information.
