Ever since actor and politician Thalapathy Vijay announced his entry into politics, there has been turmoil in his life. Now recently news has come that their marriage is going to end after 27 years. Actually, Vijay’s wife Sangeeta has filed a 12-page divorce petition in Chengalpattu Family Court.
This petition was filed on 27 February 2026, the hearing on which is scheduled on 20 March. The court has required personal presence of both the parties. After this step the matter has come into limelight.
In the petition, Sangeeta has claimed that her married life was happy in the initial years. However, in April 2021, she came to know about Vijay’s alleged affair with an actress, which deeply shocked her. Between September 2021 and February 2022, she contacted Vijay through her lawyer and requested him to end the relationship.
Relationship continued despite promises
According to Sangeeta, Vijay assured her to end the relationship, but later the relationship continued. He alleged that when he raised questions on the subject, financial limitations were imposed on him. Also, he had to face mental stress and humiliation.
No objection to public photos
The petition also states that Vijay appeared with the actress at public events and on foreign trips. Vijay did not raise any objection to the pictures shared on social media, which left Sangeeta and the children in an uncomfortable situation.
Children’s well-being is priority
Sangeeta said that keeping in mind the education and mental health of the children, she did not take legal action for a long time. Despite sending a divorce notice and trying to negotiate twice, a solution could not be found. An attempt at an amicable separation on 9 November also failed.
Demand for private hearing
Sangeeta has requested the court to hear the case in-camera. She has warned that if necessary, she can make public the documentary evidence related to the alleged affair. Vijay and Sangeeta were married in 1999 and have two children. Both are living separately since 2023.
