A shocking incident has come to light from Silchar in Cachar district of Assam. Here a 28 year old girl was raped by seven people. The girl had come here to visit with her boyfriend. It is alleged that several men raped her at knife point.
Later the attackers also collected money from the victim. Police said that this incident happened on February 19. The victim lodged a complaint and a case was registered. The victim has written in the FIR that at least seven men took turns and raped her and then forced her to transfer Rs 10,000 to one of their accounts.
According to the victim’s family members, she was in the car with her boyfriend on the bypass road, a few kilometers away from Silchar town. There some men riding in Mahindra Thar came and attacked them.
Asked the house of the girl and the young man
The family members alleged that they first asked the two about their residence and then suddenly caught the girl and her boyfriend. There were about seven men there, and they raped the girl one by one in front of the male friend.
Police suppressed the matter, but this is how it was revealed
The police had initially maintained silence on this matter. However, on Tuesday, the case went viral on social media after a Silchar-based journalist was attacked by family members of one of the accused. The journalist claimed that he was stopped by the family members of the accused near the National Highway Road police station. He told that the accused questioned why he reported the incident and then beat him up, but he was saved by the intervention of people present at the spot.
Politics heated up over incident
Rajya Sabha member Sushmita Dev also demanded strict action in the matter. The Trinamool Congress MP said that I met the Superintendent of Police of Cachar district and took information about the action taken in the case. There should be no attempt to suppress this matter. Trinamool Congress will not tolerate this.
One accused arrested
Police said that the arrested accused has been identified as Nilotpal Das, a resident of Tapovan Nagar in Silchar. According to police sources, the victim identified the accused on the basis of the photo, after which he was taken into custody. During interrogation, the accused reportedly admitted to being present at the scene of the incident, but denied committing the rape or witnessing any such incident. According to the police, the accused claimed that he and some of his associates used to target couples sitting in parked vehicles and extort money from them.
Preliminary investigation has revealed that Rs 10,000 was transferred through UPI during the incident. Police are investigating this case from various aspects including extortion and rape.
Case under these sections
Police said that in Silchar Sadar Police Station, sections 308 (5) of the Indian Justice Code (extortion by threatening to kill), 310 (2) (robbery), 351 (2) (criminal intimidation), 61 (2) (unlawful act done by two or more persons), 70 (1) (gang rape), 76 (intent to disrobe or disrobe a woman) have been registered. A case has been registered under IPC Section 79 (word, gesture or act intended to outrage the modesty of a woman).
