How did the tradition of Shraddh begin?

According to the Mahabharata, the first preaching to perform Shraddha was given to Maharishi Nimi by Mahatapasvi Atri Muni. Maharishi Nimi first performed Shraddha at the behest of Atri Muni. Seeing them, other sages and sages also started shraddha of their ancestors.
Gradually the tradition of performing Shraddha spread to the four varnas. All started giving food and water to their ancestors in Shraddha. The ancestors were fully satisfied by consistently eating Shraddha, but this caused him to suffer indigestion, which caused him to suffer.
Then Pitra deity went to Brahmaji and said, ‘We have become indigested by eating grain of Shraddha, remove our suffering.’
Listening to the fathers, Brahmaji said, ‘These Agnidev are sitting near me, they will solve your problem.’
Agnidev said, ‘Pitars, from now on, we will eat together in Shraddha. Staying with me will cure your indigestion disease. ‘ Pitar was pleased to hear Agnidev.
This is the reason that whenever we make food for the fathers, we put some parts in the fire. First Agnidev takes that food and later Pitru. By doing this, we get the blessings of both Agnidev and Pitra.

Why is it necessary to perform Shraddha?

It is written in the Brahmapurana that ‘Shraddhan na kurute mohat tasya rakam pibanti te’.
Meaning- A person who does not perform Shraddha of his ancestors has to suffer many troubles in his life? The dead creatures, that is, the relatives who do not perform Pitra Shraddha, start sucking blood. Therefore, it is considered necessary for everyone to perform Shraddha of your ancestors.
