Expectations for another exciting match between India and Pakistan in the T20 World Cup have increased. Know how both the teams can face each other in the semi-finals or finals and what equations are being created for this.
Colombo: The Super-8 matches of the T20 World Cup have now reached their last and most exciting phase. South Africa from Group-1 and England from Group-2 have already confirmed their place in the semi-finals. Now for the remaining two places, there is a fierce competition between India and West Indies in Group-1, while in Group-2 there is a fierce competition between Pakistan and New Zealand.
To reach the semi-finals, Pakistan will have to win its match against Sri Lanka today by a big margin. According to the current equations, to overtake New Zealand in net run rate, Pakistan will either have to win by around 65 runs, or achieve the given target within 13 overs. If both the teams qualify for the semi-finals and win their respective semi-final matches, then a great clash between India and Pakistan can be seen in the final of the World Cup. Looking at the current situation, the most likely chance of the two teams clashing is in the finals.
However, technically there is still a very small hope left for the semi-final match between India and Pakistan. For this, something will have to happen whose expectations are almost nil. In Sunday’s match, Zimbabwe will have to defeat South Africa by an incredible margin. Also, India will have to register a big win over West Indies. If this happens then India will come first in its group. And if Pakistan remains second in its group, then India and Pakistan will face each other in the semi-finals itself.
ICC has already made it clear that if there is a semi-final between India and Pakistan, then that match will be played in Colombo. But if India faces any other team in the semi-finals, then the match will be held in Mumbai. Another interesting thing is that if Pakistan reaches the final, then the venue of the final can also be shifted to Colombo.
