All over the world, the effect of superstition and home remedies without any scientific evidence has increased so much that people sometimes even put their lives in danger. One such shocking case has come to light from Zhengzhou city of Henan province of China, knowing about which you too will get goosebumps.

This incident is related to 23-year-old man Zheng. It is being told that he was searching for solutions for the treatment of some disease on the internet. During this time, he came to know about a so-called folk remedy, which claimed that internal diseases of the body could be cured through leeches. In such a situation, Zheng did not wait and took a big and dangerous step by trusting this ‘miraculous’ remedy.

Zheng bought a live leech about 5 centimeters long. After this, Zheng inserted the leech inside his body through his urethra in the manner described online. Shortly after doing this, he started feeling severe pain and urination stopped completely. After getting stuck in the urethra, the leech gradually reached the bladder and stuck there and started sucking blood. In such a situation, Zheng’s pain increased and his condition worsened. When the pain became unbearable, he was finally forced to go to the emergency department of the local hospital. When he told the whole story to the doctors, they too were in thought for some time. After this, the doctors of the Urology department immediately did an ultrasound, in which the presence of leeches inside the bladder was clearly visible.

Considering the seriousness of the situation, the team of Urology department decided to perform ‘Transurethral bladder foreign body removal surgery’. After a lot of effort, the doctors succeeded in removing the leech from the bladder, after which Zheng got relief from pain and was able to urinate normally. Dr Shan Zhongji, director of the urology department of Zhengzhou People’s Hospital, said such foolish actions can cause serious damage to the urethra and bladder, which can lead to future infections, persistent pain and serious problems related to urination. This incident proves that blindly trusting every treatment found on the internet can be dangerous. Only doctors should be trusted in health related matters.
