Actually, it is considered a symbol of guarantee of high quality and safety trust of any product, which is now issued by BIS on behalf of Bureau of Indian Standards. A 7 digit license number is also given along with the ISI mark.

While buying ply board, you must check its grades like BWP i.e. boiling water proof. This is especially best for kitchen and bathroom. Apart from this, BWR i.e. Boiling Water Resistance, ply boards of this grade are suitable for normal use i.e. in those places where there is no fear of dampness and moisture. Apart from this, MR grade ply board is also available. These are moisture resistant. One should try to use it sparingly.

What is core gap quality?

While buying ply board, you must check what is the core gap quality. As if there is no empty gap between its layers. Such ply board is weak. A good way to check it is to look carefully at its edges. If there is dust falling off it or dark spots, light holes are visible and the layers are not tightly joined, then its quality may be bad. You can see by tapping. If a solid-heavy sound is coming then there is no gap inside it.

Must check ATBS

While purchasing ply board, you should ensure whether the ply is (ATBS) certified or not. ATBS (Anti-Termite Borer Solution). This is a special chemical treatment which is used to keep the ply board safe from termites and borers.
