A stray dog was seen carrying the amputated leg of a human being near AIMSS Hospital in Shimla. This leg belonged to a patient, which was picked up by a dog from the biomedical waste due to the negligence of the sanitation workers. The hospital has ordered an investigation.
Shimla: A heart-wrenching video has surfaced from Shimla, Himachal Pradesh. Here a stray dog was roaming around with the severed leg of a human being in its mouth. There was a stir after the video went viral on social media and now an investigation has been ordered into the matter. This shocking incident took place at Atal Institute of Medical Super Specialties (AIMSS) located in Chamiyana, Shimla. When this scary video went viral on Tuesday, the hospital administration immediately took action and started investigating the matter.
After this incident, the hospital management has issued a show cause notice to the cleaning staff and supervisor who were on duty on the night of February 21. This notice has been given on the basis of the report of the fact-finding committee. Further disciplinary action will be taken after reviewing their responses. The company taking the cleaning contract has been directed to strictly follow the guidelines related to collection and disposal of biomedical waste. Also, the Biomedical Waste Disposal Agency has been asked to ensure that waste is removed from the hospital premises in a timely manner.
Taking cognizance of the viral video, the hospital had formed a fact-finding committee of 3 members on Tuesday morning. The committee was entrusted with the task of investigating the lapses in the incident and fixing responsibility. Investigation revealed that on February 19, a patient’s leg below the knee was amputated in the Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery (CTVS) department. This severed body part was packed and kept for disposal in the biomedical waste complex.
But, on the night of February 21, the sanitation workers left the door of the complex open while collecting garbage. It is suspected that during this time some stray dog picked up the leg of the person from there. Despite many efforts, the team could not find that part of the body. According to the report, on February 24, the dog was again seen with its foot in its mouth. When the security guards tried to snatch the leg from the dog, it became aggressive and ran away.
