Uttarakhand weather update: Light snowfall likely in Chamoli, Uttarkashi, Bageshwar, rain in Pithoragarh

Dehradun: The weather in Uttarakhand is showing signs of change after several days of dry conditions. According to the Meteorological Centre, light rain and snowfall are likely in the mountainous districts of Chamoli, Uttarkashi, Bageshwar, Rudraprayag, and Pithoragarh on February 27 and 28. Areas situated above 3,000 meters may witness snowfall, while the plains will continue to remain dry.

In Chamoli, Uttarkashi, and Bageshwar, light snowfall is predicted, which could make roads slippery in higher regions. Travelers and locals are advised to remain cautious while moving through snow-prone areas. The Meteorological Centre has also warned that snowfall above 3,000 meters may affect accessibility in certain parts of the state.

Bright sunshine has dominated the plains

For the past few days, bright sunshine has dominated the plains, causing daytime temperatures to rise. Residents have been experiencing hot afternoons, though mornings and evenings still carry a slight chill. The dry spell has made the weather feel warmer than usual, and the upcoming rain in the hills is expected to bring some relief.

Meanwhile, Pithoragarh district is expected to receive light rain, adding to the changing weather pattern in the hills. Rudraprayag too may see scattered showers. However, the rest of Uttarakhand is likely to remain dry, with no significant rainfall activity reported in the plains.

Minimum temperature across the state is not expected to decrease

Despite the possibility of rain and snowfall, the minimum temperature across the state is not expected to decrease. In fact, meteorologists suggest that the minimum temperature may rise slightly over the next four to five days. The maximum temperature is also expected to increase by two to three degrees Celsius, making afternoons warmer.

Very light rain or snowfall may occur in districts like Uttarkashi

On February 28, the weather is predicted to remain rough in the higher regions. Very light rain or snowfall may occur in districts like Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Bageshwar, Rudraprayag, and Pithoragarh. Snowfall could lead to slippery road conditions, especially in areas above 3,000 meters.

Mountain districts must prepare for light showers

Residents are advised not to pack away their warm clothes too early, as sudden changes in weather can affect health. The Meteorological Centre has urged people to remain alert and take precautions against cold winds and slippery surfaces. While the plains will continue to experience rising temperatures, the mountain districts must prepare for light showers and snow over the next two days.
