New Delhi: Sunetra Pawar, the wife of late NCP chief Ajit Pawar, has been elected as the national president of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), senior leader Praful Patel announced on Thursday. Patel said he placed the proposal during the party’s national executive meeting, where it received unanimous approval from all members.
Praful addressed the party leaders and delegates. He gave an emotional speech and recalled the period of intense discussions and speculation in the party after leadership changes after Ajit Pawar. He said despite many debates, there was complete clarity and unity among senior leaders on the party’s future direction.
He called himself as a 35-year associate, worker, leader and founding member alongside Ajit Pawar. Patel formally proposed Sunetra Pawar’s name for the top post. He said the NCP must move forward with unity and renewed strength under new leadership.
Meanwhile, sources said Parth Pawar is also likely to be given an important role in the party in the coming days.
