The story of Japanese monkey ‘Punch’ which went viral on social media has been used by Mumbai and Delhi Police for a special purpose. Through this cute monkey, they are making people aware about the National Emergency Helpline number 112.

These days, the story of a small Japanese monkey ‘Punch’ is going viral on social media. Now Mumbai and Delhi Police have used this story to spread awareness about security among the people. The objective of this campaign is to popularize the National Emergency Helpline number 112. Punch is a ‘Japanese macaque’ monkey born in Ichikawa City Zoo, Japan. His mother abandoned him soon after birth. After this the zoo staff gave him an orangutan toy. The pictures of Punch sleeping with this toy close to his chest won the hearts of people all over the world.

Mumbai Police shared four pictures on its Instagram page based on Gandhiji’s three monkeys theory. Along with ‘See no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil’, he added a picture of Punch and gave a new message – ‘Do no evil’. The caption of the post read, ‘Be wise, report vice’ and used the hashtag #JustPunchIn112.

Delhi Police also did not lag behind in this campaign. He shared a picture in which a police officer is seen walking with Punch. With this he wrote, ‘The story of Punch reminds us of one thing, everyone needs someone’s help. We are always here for you.

Currently, Punch is trying to socialize with other monkeys at the zoo. Zoo keeper Kosuke Shikano said that initially the big monkeys bothered him a bit and ignored him, but now Punch is slowly joining their herd.
