The Trump government has imposed 126% tax on Indian solar products, calling it dumping in the US market. He also talked about liberating Americans from income tax and giving priority to talks with Iran.
New Delhi: The government of US President Donald Trump has announced to impose a heavy tax of 126% on solar goods coming from India. Some time ago, the Trump government itself had reduced the tax on Indian goods to 10%, but now this big decision has been taken regarding solar products. America alleges that the subsidy given by the Indian government for making solar panels and cells is wrong. Because of this, India is bridging the American market by producing them at low cost. Due to this, now a tariff of 126% will be imposed on solar panels and cells exported from India.
The order issued states, ‘In 2022, America had imported solar equipment worth Rs 762 crore from India. This figure will increase to Rs 7,200 crore in 2024. Countries like India, Indonesia and Laos are making solar equipment at low prices and dumping it in the US market. Our Finance Ministry is investigating this matter.
The US has imposed taxes of 86% to 143% on Indonesia and 81% on Laos. By the beginning of 2025, these three countries will account for 57% of total US solar equipment imports.
‘Now Americans will get freedom from income tax’: Trump
Washington: Donald Trump has said, ‘Billions of dollars are being collected from the import taxes I have imposed on other countries. Therefore, very soon Americans will not need to pay income taxes.
Speaking in Parliament, he said, ‘The countries which looted us for so many years are now paying us billions of dollars. Those countries may not benefit, but we are benefiting tremendously. I have made agreements that are beneficial to us from both economic and national security perspectives. Therefore, they will no longer need to pay income tax which has become a burden on the American people. Trump has talked about abolishing income tax many times before.
‘Priority to talks with Iran’: Trump
Washington: President Donald Trump, who some time ago said America was fully prepared to attack Iran, has now changed his stance. He said, ‘We will never allow Iran to acquire nuclear weapons. I want to solve this problem diplomatically through talks.
He said in Parliament, ‘Till now no statement has come from Iran that they will never make nuclear weapons. Instead, they are building missiles that can reach America. Trump also recalled ‘Operation Midnight Hammer’ conducted on Iran’s nuclear sites last year. In this way he made a mysterious statement without saying anything directly.
