Chhattisgarh Green Hydrogen Mission: New initiative for farmers’ income, energy security and industries. Chhattisgarh Green Hydrogen Mission Seminar Cbda Biomass Industrial Decarbonization 2026

Chhattisgarh Biofuel Development Authority organized a seminar to promote green hydrogen. Biomass based production, industrial decarbonization, farmers’ income growth and energy security were discussed in detail.

Raipur. Chhattisgarh Biofuel Development Authority (CBDA) organized a half-day seminar with the aim of making the state self-reliant in the field of green hydrogen and expanding clean energy globally. The event was held at Courtyard by Marriott and was attended by energy sector experts, industry representatives and financial institutions. Shri Rohit Yadav (IAS), Secretary, Energy Department, Government of Chhattisgarh, was present as the chief guest in the program.

Initiative to promote green hydrogen in industrial use

Secretary Shri Rohit Yadav in his address said that the main objective of this seminar is to encourage the use of green hydrogen in the industrial environment of the state. He said that the need of the hour is to adopt clean and sustainable alternatives in place of traditional industrial fuels. He also clarified that considering the possibilities of biomass based green hydrogen production, the state government will give special incentives in this direction. This will promote organic farming and increase the income of farmers.

Possibilities of biomass based green hydrogen production

During the seminar, it was told that agricultural residues, waste generated from dairy industry, organic waste from fruit and vegetable markets and cow dung are available in sufficient quantity in Chhattisgarh. By processing these resources using appropriate technology, green hydrogen can be produced on a large scale. This will solve the problem of waste management and strengthen the ‘Waste to Wealth’ model.

Direction of decarbonization in industrial areas of Raipur, Bhilai and Raigarh

The steel and sponge iron industry in the state has a strong base in Raipur and its surrounding industrial areas like Urla, Siltara, Bhilai and Raigarh. Apart from this, industrial units are also operating in Jagdalpur and Bastar. The use of green hydrogen in these sectors will promote industrial decarbonization and help achieve national environmental goals.

Farmers’ income, energy security and net-zero target

Adoption of green hydrogen as industrial fuel will have double benefits. On one hand, clean energy will be promoted, while value addition of biomass will increase the income of farmers. This initiative will strengthen India’s energy security, encourage income generation from waste and prove to be an important step towards the goals of net-zero emissions.

Expert participation and panel discussion

Chief Executive Officer of the Energy Department, Shri Sumit Sarkar said that the objective of the seminar is to promote the use of green hydrogen, decide the direction of research, identify possible obstacles and pave the way for its widespread implementation.

Shri Sayaji Mehtre, Senior Scientist, Bhabha Atomic Research Center (BARC) gave a presentation on biomass based green hydrogen production on the topic “Hydrogen Economy: Innovation-Led Growth in Industrial Clusters in Chhattisgarh”.

Shri Dharmendra Kumar Pancharya, subject matter expert from Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, Government of India, representatives of Bhilai Steel Plant and other entrepreneurs participated in the panel discussion on the topic “Accelerating Green Hydrogen Adoption in Chhattisgarh”.

Representatives from financial institutions like State Bank of India (SBI) and National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) were also present in the seminar.

Apart from this, experts associated with National Green Hydrogen Mission, representatives of Shakti Sustainable Energy Foundation, scientists from BARC, CSMCRI Bhavnagar, IIT Bhilai, representatives of various private industrial units and senior officials of CBDA also participated in the program.
