Tales from past trips: 2006 and 2017
In May 2006, Gujarat CM Narendra Modi accompanied an Indian delegation to the Agritech-2006 agricultural exhibition. He presented the agricultural vision of Gujarat under “Per Drop More Crop”. This vision formed the basis of India’s National Micro-Irrigation Scheme, the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojana.
The delegation visited collective farming settlements such as kibbutzim and understood Israel’s water management system. Modi discussed water and farming technology with companies like Netafim and TAHAL Group. These technologies included drip irrigation, recycling of waste water and cloud seeding.
The thread connecting the 2006 and 2017 visits is agriculture and water resource management. Both countries had been working on the same problems from different angles.
