Bhubaneswar: In Cuttack, Odisha, Deputy Director of Mines Debabrata Mohanty has been arrested red handed by the Vigilance team while taking a bribe of Rs 30 thousand. This bribe was being taken from a coal businessman. After his arrest, when Vigilance officials raided Mohanty’s premises, he was left in tears. About Rs 4 crore cash has been found from the officer’s Bhubaneswar flat. Apart from this, simultaneous raids were also conducted at his ancestral house in Mathsahi, Bhadrak and his office in Cuttack. This cash was kept in a trolley bag inside the BRS flat.

One of the biggest raids in the history of Odisha

The counting of notes found in the trolley bag and safe is still going on. According to initial reports, Rs 4 crore has been counted so far. There are so many notes that machines had to be ordered for counting. Local media is calling it one of the biggest raids in the history of Odisha. More than Rs 1.5 lakh cash has also been found in the drawer of Debabrata Mohanty’s office.

Two luxurious palace-like houses were also found

During the raid, it has been revealed that Debabrata Mohanty also has two palace-like luxurious houses in Bhubaneswar city. Apart from cash, more than 130 grams of gold has also been recovered. Mohanty had demanded bribe from a businessman in return for permission to operate and transport a coal depot. The businessman gave this information to the vigilance officers. As soon as Mohanty took the bribe money on Tuesday night, the team caught him. Since his arrest, investigation into the properties related to Mohanty is going on.
