What does mythological belief say?
According to folklore, Lord Parashurama created this area by taking out land from the sea. It is said-
“Ker” means water and “Alam” means land.
Meaning “land emerging from water” = Keralam.
Although it is a religious belief, it is deeply linked to the cultural heritage of the state.
