A minor student of a hostel in Kanakagiri, Karnataka gave birth to a child. Her 21-year-old maternal uncle Altaf has been arrested under the POCSO Act for sexually abusing her on the pretext of marriage.
Koppal: A sensational case of a minor student giving birth to a child in the hostel of a residential school in Karnataka’s Kanakagiri taluk has come to light. In this case, the police have registered a case against a person under the POCSO Act. The accused has been identified as Altaf (21), a resident of Vijayanagar district, who appears to be the maternal uncle of the student. Police investigation revealed that the marriage of the student and the accused Altaf was fixed. But the allegation is that even before marriage, Altaf sexually assaulted the student two-three times, due to which she became pregnant. Police said that the accused has been arrested and sent to judicial custody.
Threatened if I told anyone
It is alleged that maternal uncle Altaf had raped the minor in October itself on the pretext of marriage. Now a case has been registered against Altaf under POCSO Act. The student has stated in her complaint that the accused had physical relations with her after promising to marry her. He had also threatened not to tell this to anyone. This entire case has been registered at Kanakagiri Police Station.
On this incident, Koppal district in-charge minister Shivraj Tangadgi said, “It has also come to my notice that a girl student in a residential school in Kanakagiri taluk has given birth to a child. I have directed the concerned officials to find out the truth of the matter and submit a report.”
