New Delhi: Babar Azam’s poor run with the bat continued in Pakistan’s Super Eight clash against England at the Pallekele International Stadium in Pallekele, in the T20 World Cup 2026 on Tuesday. Babar was cleaned up by England all-rounder Jamie Overton after a scratchy knock of 25 runs off 24 balls. It was an awful shot from the right-hander, who looked far from convincing during his stay in the middle.
Babar came out to bat at no.4 in the Super Eight encounter despite Pakistan including Fakhar Zaman in the playing XI. Opting to bat first in the must-win clash, Pakistan got off to a wobbly start as they lost opener Saim Ayub cheaply on 7, before spinner Liam Dawson got rid of skipper Salman Ali Agha on 5 off 7 balls.
Babar then arrived at no.4 and forged a 46-run stand with Sahibzada Farhan, who slammed a quickfire fifty. Babar got off to a good start, smashing back-to-back fours against Jofra Archer, however, he struggled to accelerate as his innings progressed. The Pakistan star’s misery was ended by Overton in the 11th over of Pakistan’s innings.
Overton castled his stumps with a brilliant delivery to send him packing on a run-a-ball 25. It was a shortish delivery from Overton bowled outside off, which skid along the deck and rattled Babar’s stumps. The Pakistan batter tried playing across the line and was beaten as his stumps went for a toss.
