Katihar Train Murder: Katihar Police of Bihar has arrested a wife who had got her railway employee husband Devkumar Gunjan murdered. For this he had hired a betel nut killer. The wife herself had conspired with her lover to commit murder.
Katihar (Bihar): Bihar Police has claimed to have solved the mystery of the murder of a railway employee. In this case, the police have arrested three people including the wife of the deceased, her lover and a betel nut killer. It is alleged that the wife conspired with her lover to murder her husband and then got him shot in the train by a hired killer.
Railway employee was shot in Jansadharan Express
- According to Bihar Police, Devkumar Gunjan was shot in Jansadharan Express on June 11. The incident took place near Badlaghat under Mansi Railway Police Station. Devkumar, who was injured by the bullet, later died during treatment.
- In this matter, a case was registered on June 12 at Mansi Railway Police Station under Section 309(6) of the Indian Justice Code (BNS), 2023 and Section 27 of the Arms Act.
Wife turns out to be the mastermind of husband’s murder
- Bihar Police said in a statement, “Based on evidence obtained from technical and scientific investigation, Katihar Railway District Police and STF/STAW-03 Unit conducted a simultaneous raid. In this action, Ajit Kumar, Samita (victim’s wife), and Raju Kumar alias Dheeraj were arrested and interrogated.”
- Police said that during interrogation, Ajit Kumar confessed to his crime. She told that Devkumar Gunjan was creating a hindrance between her and Samita’s love relationship.
Samita becomes a murderer out of love
- According to the police, “Ajit Kumar confessed that Devkumar Gunjan was an obstacle in his and Samita’s love affair. As part of a well-planned conspiracy, Ajit and Samita hired a contract killer named Dheeraj to shoot Devkumar when he was in the train. The victim later died during treatment.”
- According to the press release issued from Katihar Railway SP office, Devkumar Gunjan was an employee in the electricity department in Jamui. He was going to meet his wife Samita Kumari, who is posted as Motor Vehicle Inspector (MVI) in Supaul. Then he was attacked in the train.
How was Katihar murder mystery solved?
- Following the incident, Katihar Railway SP had constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) under the leadership of Barauni Railway Sub-Divisional Police Officer to investigate the matter and the investigation was being continuously monitored.
- In the joint operation of Railway District Katihar SIT and Special Task Force STF/STAW-03, electricity department employee and alleged lover Ajit Kumar, wife Samita Kumari and Raju Kumar alias Dheeraj, who is said to be a betel nut killer, were arrested.
- Police say that investigation and raids are going on to trace other accused involved in this conspiracy. Police said, “Intensive investigation and continuous raids are being conducted against other criminals involved in the incident; they will be arrested soon, investigation will be completed and speedy trial will be ensured to bring them to justice.”
- Police also said that Raju Kumar alias Dheeraj has a criminal record. He has already been jailed under sections 109 and 126 of the BNS and section 27 of the Arms Act in cases dated November 11, 2025. He was currently out on bail and his criminal history was being further investigated.
- During the investigation, the police also recovered mobile phones and SIM cards used in the crime from Samita Kumari, Ajit Kumar and Raju Kumar alias Dheeraj. Further investigation of the case is still going on.
