New Delhi: Toyota’s next-generation Fortuner has been seen testing in Thailand, showing that work on the new model is moving ahead. The SUV was covered in heavy camouflage, but it is clear that this is not just a small update. It looks like a proper generational change.
Since testing has already begun in Thailand and both front and rear sections have been spotted, the new Fortuner appears to be in the final stages of development. A global debut is likely sometime in 2026. The India launch could happen by the end of 2026 or in early 2027.

The test vehicle still carries the familiar Fortuner shape, but there are visible differences. The new SUV looks more upright. The bonnet appears flatter, and the front seems wider than before.
At the front, Toyota seems to be following the design seen on the latest Hilux. The new Fortuner is expected to get a split headlamp setup. Slim LED daytime running lights are placed higher up, while the main headlamps sit lower on the bumper. The grille looks bigger, and the bumper design is new. Fog lamps appear to be placed lower down as well.
The rear section is mostly hidden under camouflage. However, the shape suggests a more boxy and squared-off look compared to the current model. The tailgate design seems new, and the tail-lamps look slimmer. There are chances that the rear lights could be connected by a light bar, but final details are still not visible.
Cabin and features likely to improve
Interior details have not been seen yet. But based on updates given to the new Hilux, the Fortuner is expected to get a big cabin upgrade. It may come with a fully digital instrument cluster and a larger 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system.
One important detail seen in the spy shots is the presence of ADAS hardware. A radar module is visible in the lower bumper, and cameras can be seen behind the windscreen. This means Toyota Safety Sense will likely be offered. The current Fortuner has been criticised for lacking advanced safety features, so this update will be important.
Expected features could include dual 12.3-inch screens, Level 2 ADAS functions, a 360-degree camera, wireless charging, ventilated and powered front seats, and a sunroof depending on the variant.
Engine options expected to continue
Including India and other markets, Toyota is likely to continue with the existing engine options. These include the 2.7-litre petrol and the 2.8-litre diesel engine. The diesel version is expected to retain the 48V mild-hybrid system that is already offered in the Fortuner Neo Drive in India.
Transmission choices are likely to remain the same, with a 6-speed manual and a torque-converter automatic gearbox. Four-wheel drive will likely continue on selected variants.
