Amazon opens 1.1M sq ft Bengaluru office, says it can seat 7,000+ staff

New Delhi: Amazon has opened what it calls its second largest office in Asia in Bengaluru, adding another big piece to the company’s India operations story. The new campus is a 12-storey, 1.1 million sq ft single-building office that Amazon says can support 7,000+ employees across e-commerce, operations, payments, technology, and seller services.

The building sits on a five-acre site around 15 km from Kempegowda International Airport and was inaugurated by Dr. M.B. Patil, Karnataka’s Minister for Large and Medium Industries and Infrastructure Development. Amazon’s bigger point is scale. It says it has already invested $40 billion in India, and committed another $35 billion by 2030. At today’s USD-INR levels near ₹90.78 per dollar, that is roughly ₹3.6 lakh crore and ₹3.2 lakh crore.

A Bengaluru campus built for big teams

Amazon says that the design focuses on getting large teams to work in the same place without feeling boxed in. Inside, it has “neighbourhood” style work zones with meeting rooms, huddle spaces, breakout areas, and event spaces that can host 200+ people.

There are recreation and open-air bits too, including basketball and pickleball courts, an amphitheatre, and lawns. Cafeterias run across two floors with global cuisines.

Patil used the opening to pitch Bengaluru as a global tech base, saying, “Amazon’s continued investment in Bengaluru reflects Inda global technology and innovation hub. Large-scale campuses like Amazon’s new campus create high-quality jobs, strengthen local ecosystem, and support India’s digital economy. We welcome investments that build long-term capability and create opportunity for our workforce.”

Samir Kumar, Country Manager Amazon India, tied Bengaluru to Amazon’s tech and business buildout, saying, “India c-term priority for Amazon, and Bengaluru has played a central role in our journey here.” He added, “As we build for customers in India and around the world, we remain committed to investing in infrastructure, technology, and talent for the long term.”

Amazon’s footprint in Karnataka

Amazon says it has ten corporate offices in Karnataka, seven fulfilment centres, and 130+ last-mile delivery stations, plus micro-FCs for Amazon Now across Bengaluru. It also says 80,000+ sellers from Karnataka sell on Amazon.in.
