It is believed that celebrating Gudi Padwa festival was started by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. At the time when Mughals were ruling India, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj was giving competition to the Mughals. He fought with the Mughals and captured many forts. The festival of Gudi Padwa was first celebrated in Maharashtra to celebrate the great victory over the Mughals. Later this festival started being celebrated all over the country. This tradition started by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj continues even today.
