Step 1: Choose the right pot and soil
To plant a lotus, a wide and deep pot is necessary. The pot should be at least 12–18 inches deep and should not have drainage holes. Fill the pot with heavy or clay soil so that the roots are firmly planted and do not float in water.
Step 2: Plant the lotus root (rhizome) correctly
It is easier to plant lotus from rhizome than from seed. Press the root into the soil at an angle; Do not press it completely. Make sure the tip of the root is sticking out. Then, slowly fill the pot with water, taking care not to disturb the soil.
