Prime Minister Narendra Modi remembered Elin Sherin Abraham, a 10-month-old organ donor from Kerala, in his ‘Mann Ki Baat’ program on Sunday. He emphasized that awareness regarding organ donation is increasing in the country.

Speaking in the 131st episode of ‘Mann Ki Baat’, PM Modi expressed condolences to Elin’s family. He said, “For any parent, there is no greater pain than losing a child. And when the child is very small, the pain is even deeper. Just a few days ago, we lost an innocent girl from Kerala, Elin Sherin Abraham… Awareness about organ donation is increasing in the country… Medical research is also being promoted… There are many people like Elin who have given a new life to someone by donating their organs…”

a tragic accident

On February 5, Allin suffered serious injuries in a road accident at Pallam Boorma Junction in Pathanamthitta district. A car coming from the front had hit his car. Along with Elin, her mother and grandparents were also seriously injured in this accident. After initial treatment in Changanassery and Tiruvalla, the girl was shifted to Kochi, where doctors declared her brain-dead on 13 February.

A courageous decision, five lives saved

Soon after this the family gave their consent for organ donation. Elin’s parents, Arun Abraham and Sherin Ann John, decided to donate their daughter’s organs. The girl’s liver, two kidneys, heart valve and cornea were donated. A six-month-old baby received the liver, becoming the youngest child to receive a post-mortem liver transplant in the state. The kidney was given to another child, while the heart valve and cornea were also transplanted to needy patients.

State honor to the youngest organ donor

For this great work, Kerala Police honored 10-month-old Elin Sherin Abraham by giving her a ‘Guard of Honour’. This girl’s selfless contribution saved the lives of five people.

Speaking to ANI, Kerala Health Minister Veena George said that this act of love and care for humanity is an example for many people. She said, “Taking this decision amidst such deep grief and pain… I can’t explain it. It’s such an example of love and care for humanity, which will serve as a model for many others. The parents decided to donate their organs and their younger daughter, Ellen, became the youngest organ donor in the state. The state decided to give a guard of honor to the little girl. The police have given a guard of honor as a mark of respect to the state, and the Hon. The Chief Minister has called the family and expressed his condolences.”

After being declared brain-dead in the hospital, this girl became Kerala’s youngest organ donor by giving new life to five people. (ANI)
