The best time to plant hibiscus from cuttings or twigs is during the monsoon season of February-March and August-September, as the moisture and warmth help the roots to form. It is worth noting that hibiscus plants planted from cuttings will start giving flowers in 4-5 months.

Necessary materials for growing hibiscus plant from cutting

  • A green, strong branch (cutting) of a healthy hibiscus plant
  • sharp scissors or knife
  • Good soil (mixture of garden soil + compost + sand or coco peat)
  • A medium-sized pot or grow bag (with drainage holes)
  • Water

How to grow a plant from cutting?

Choose the right branch: Select a green or slightly stiff branch 6–10 inches (15–25 cm) long from a healthy plant. It should have 3-4 nodes (where leaves emerge).

Prepare cuttings: Cut the bottom diagonally at a 45-degree angle with sharp scissors. Keep the top cut straight. The oblique cut helps roots to form.
