Adheep, Aishani, Dev, Kavya win singles titles at West Zone Badminton Goa’s Rehani bags Silver, Bronze for Bhagat

New Delhi: Gujarat’s Adheep Gupta emerged the new Men’s Singles champion, defeating Goa’s Arjun Rehani 21-18, 21-18 in a hard-fought final to conclude the Yonex Sunrise West Zone Inter State Badminton Individual Championship 2025 on Saturday, at Indoor Stadium, Campal, Panaji. Earlier, Goa’s Arjun Bhagat, who had bowed out in the semifinals in Junior Boys singles settled for a bronze medal. With the top four finishers in singles and top two in doubles earning direct qualification for the Nationals, both Rehani and Bhagat secured their berths, ensuring Goa’s additional representation at the next stage.

In Women’s Singles final, Gujarat’s Aishani Tiwari overcame compatriot Kavya Marvaniya 21-19 before Marvaniya retired at 7-3 in the second game, giving Gujarat the top two finishes in the singles category. In Men’s Doubles, M V Abhishek and Sujey Tamboli of Chhattisgarh recovered from a shaky start to defeat second seeds Arya Thakore and Dhruv Thakore 8-21, 21-12, 21-17.

The Women’s Doubles final went the distance, with Aishwarya Mehta and Priyanka Pant of Madhya Pradesh edging past Maharashtra’s second seeds Anagha Karandikar and Siya Singh 21-16, 7-21, 21-15. The Mixed Doubles crown was claimed by Chhattisgarh’s second seeds Ayush Makhija and Renushri Yavarna, who beat Maharashtra’s Ajinkya Patharkar and Nikkita Joseph 21-15, 15-21, 21-17.

Among the juniors, top seed Dev Kumavat (Madhya Pradesh) came from behind to beat Chhattisgarh’s Vaibhav Singh 16-21, 21-16, 21-14 in the Boys U19 singles final, while Gujarat’s Kavya Marvaniya secured the Girls U19 title with a commanding 21-14, 21-13 win over Madhya Pradesh’s Anushka Shapurkar.

In doubles, Chhattisgarh’s second seeds Divyansh Agarwal and Saurav Sahu outlasted Maharashtra’s Arjun and Aryan Birajdar 21-13, 16-21, 21-19 to clinch the Boys U19 Doubles crown, whereas Maharashtra’s second seeds Shravani Walekar and Taarini Suri dominated the Girls U19 Doubles final, defeating Chhattisgarh’s Rashi Mall and Shweta Pardeshi 21-10, 21-13. Maharashtra also bagged the U19 Mixed Doubles title with second seeds Sanidhya Ekade and Aditi Gawade beating Chhattisgarh’s Divyansh Agarwal and Ishika Poddar 21-16, 21-8.

The prestigious Championship was hosted by Goa Badminton Association under the aegis of the Badminton Association of India and in collaboration with the Sports Authority of Goa, and saw participation from five states – Goa, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh – featuring some of the brightest badminton talent of the region.
