T20 World Cup: Pakistan and New Zealand share points as Super Eight clash washed out due to rain

New Delhi: It was not an ideal start to the Super Eight stage of the T20 World Cup 2026 as Pakistan’s opener against New Zealand in Group 2 was washed out due to rain on Saturday. The two teams shared a point each after the match was abandoned without a ball being bowled due to incessant rain.

New Zealand and Pakistan were set to lock horns at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo in the first match of the Super 8s in the T20 World Cup 2026 on Saturday, February 21. Pakistan won the toss and selected to bat first amid slight drizzle in Colombo.

The fans were hoping for the rain to die down as the night progressed, however, the showers got heavier with time, eventually resulting in a complete washout. Both teams got a point each from the game and are now off the mark in their respective Super Eight campaigns.
