Clean Gomti 2026: In the ‘Clean Gomti 2026’ workshop organized in Lucknow, policy, technology and financial models for the revival of Gomti river were discussed. The target of clean and uninterrupted Gomti was set with public participation along with strict control on sewage, industrial waste and encroachment.

A state level workshop on the topic “Revitalizing the Lifeline: Clean Gomti 2026” was organized in Lucknow by the State Transformation Commission of the Government of Uttar Pradesh. This initiative was taken under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and the direction of Chief Executive Officer of State Transformation Commission, Shri Manoj Kumar Singh. Its objective is to make the Gomti River clean, pure and uninterrupted.

Clean Gomti 2026: Holistic and long-term strategy

This workshop was organized for the revival of Gomti River, a major tributary of Ganga. The aim is to create a strong and scientific action plan from policy formulation to ground implementation. In this, topics like water flow improvement, pollution control, coast protection and sustainable development were discussed in detail.

Main causes of Gomti pollution

Experts said that the main reasons for pollution in Gomti River are-

  • untreated sewage
  • industrial waste
  • dirty water from rain water drains
  • encroachment on river banks
  • siltation and reduced water flow

In Lucknow area, sewage going directly into the river without treatment emerged as the biggest problem. This has led to deterioration in water quality and increased threat to aquatic life.

Involvement of experts and environmentalists

The workshop was attended by many prominent personalities, including Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal, Rajendra Singh (Waterman of India), and senior officers of the Indian Army. All the speakers said that it is necessary to make river conservation a mass movement.

Financial Models and Public-Private Partnership

State budget, central schemes, CSR funds and Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model were discussed in the financial session. The Finance+ model was introduced, which combines financial investment with technological innovation and public participation.

Modern technology and ‘One City One Operator’ model

In the technical session, companies like VA TECH WABAG, SUEZ India and AlphaMERS presented modern sewage treatment, water recycling and smart monitoring systems. Under the “One City One Operator” model, operation and monitoring was said to be done by a centralized agency, so that the work can be done quickly and transparently.

Public participation and behavior change

Experts said that river revitalization is not possible without public participation. Emphasis was laid on developing awareness and hygiene habits among people through Social and Behavior Change Communication (SBCC).

Shri Manoj Kumar Singh said that the suggestions received in the workshop will be included in the state level action plan and implemented in a phased manner. With coordination, technical efficiency and social participation of all departments, the target of ‘Clean Gomti 2026’ will be accomplished in a time bound manner. This initiative is not only an important step towards environmental protection, but will also give a new direction to the sustainable development model of Uttar Pradesh.
