Australia, which was facing the embarrassment of being eliminated from the first round of T20 World Cup 2026, vented out all its anger on Oman. In their last match of the tournament, Australia, under the captaincy of Mitchell Marsh, bowled out Oman for just 104 runs in a completely one-sided fashion and then achieved this target in just 58 balls and won the match by 9 wickets. After Adam Zampa took 4 wickets, captain Marsh (64 not out) scored an explosive half-century and led the team to victory.
The last match of the group stage of the T20 World Cup was played on Friday 20 February in Pallekele, Sri Lanka. The importance of this match had already reduced a lot because the decision of both the Super-8 teams from Group B had been decided 3 days ago and Australia Or none of Oman was part of it. In such a situation, it was just a formality match for both the teams. For Oman, it was a chance to gain some experience, while for Australia it was a chance to save some honour.
Made world record in bowling
Oman, who was batting first, had a bad start when fast bowler Xavier Bartlett bowled opener Aamir Kaleem on the very first ball of the match. After this, Oman’s batsmen managed the innings to some extent but the team lost all four wickets of the top order by only 59 runs. All four batsmen were bowled. This became a new record in the history of T20 World Cup, when the first four wickets of a team fell by bowled. Wasim Ali scored some runs in the middle order, on the basis of which Oman scored 104 runs in 16.2 overs. For Australia, Zampa took 4 wickets, while Glenn Maxwell and Bartlett took 2-2 wickets.
Marsh scored a brilliant half-century
This target was never going to be difficult for Australia. Just had to see how much anger the batsmen get out on Oman and in how many balls they achieve this target. The responsibility for this was taken by Captain Marsh himself, who could not play the first two matches due to injury and this affected Australia’s performance. Marsh started destroying the bowlers as soon as he arrived and scored a half-century in just 26 balls. Travis Head (32) also hit some powerful shots and together added 93 runs in 8.1 overs for the first wicket. After Head was out, Josh Inglis finished the remaining work and gave Australia victory in 9.4 overs.
