IMF chief warns of threat to jobs from AI. 40% of jobs globally and 60% of jobs in developed countries may be affected. In India it is 26%. Entry-level jobs will be most affected.
New Delhi: Artificial Intelligence (AI) is making its place in every sector today. Many big companies are using AI technology to reduce expenses and reduce jobs. Meanwhile, International Monetary Fund (IMF) Chief Kristalina Georgieva has given a big warning about the increasing threat of AI on jobs. In an interview given to NDTV after the AI Impact Summit held in Delhi, he told some surprising things.
Kristalina Georgieva said that a study conducted in collaboration with IMF has revealed that about 40% of entry-level jobs worldwide are at risk of AI. He also said that this figure could increase to 60%. However, he also clarified that in India this figure will be around 26%.
Initial jobs will be most affected
According to Georgieva, the biggest impact of AI technology will be on entry-level jobs. The reason for this is that AI can do such work easily. Therefore, those who are starting their careers, their jobs are at greater risk. But he also said that as the use of AI increases, new types of jobs will also be created. AI will also bring with it many new opportunities.
More danger in developed countries
He told that the impact of AI will be more on jobs in developed countries. About 60% of entry-level jobs there may disappear due to AI. At the same time, this figure will be less in developing countries. Georgieva warned that employees who do not have specific skills or technical knowledge may face greater difficulties. For this reason, he advised that governments should make AI and machine learning a part of the school syllabus. In future, it will be necessary for every student to have basic knowledge of these two subjects.
