Major accident averted due to alertness of pump worker

The pump worker present at the time of the incident immediately understood the seriousness of the situation. He first switched off the main switch of the machine, then separated the pipe from the vehicle and started extinguishing the fire with the help of the fire fighting kit present on the pump. During this, burning petrol also fell on Dharmendra, due to which he got scared. After the fire was extinguished, the employees present there caught the two youths before they could escape and handed them over to the police.

The act was captured in CCTV footage

CCTV footage of the incident has also surfaced, in which the accused youth is seen lighting the lighter near the nozzle pipe. Flames are clearly visible in the footage and people standing nearby are seen retreating.

On the complaint of the pump manager, Urla police station has arrested both the accused. Police officials say that a case has been registered against the accused under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and further investigation is being done.

Why are safety rules necessary at petrol pumps?

According to the guidelines of oil companies:

  • Smoking is completely banned at petrol pumps
  • It is also advised to avoid using mobile phones
  • It is mandatory to fill petrol only after switching off the engine.
  • Fire safety kit and training are necessary for emergencies

This incident proved that a moment’s carelessness can become fatal not only for oneself but also for dozens of people present around.

What does the law say

Such action is not only classified as mischief but also endangers public safety. Deliberately starting a fire near a flammable substance is a serious criminal offence. If the fire was not controlled in time, the incident could have turned into an explosion.

Responsibility is not only of police

This incident in Raipur is not only a criminal case but also an example of lack of awareness. It is the responsibility of every person to follow the rules at sensitive places like petrol pumps. While the alertness of the pump worker averted a major tragedy, it also raised the question whether common people still do not take safety rules seriously. Police are investigating the matter and further action is being taken on the basis of CCTV footage. At present, this incident has sparked a new debate regarding security standards and civic responsibility in the capital.
