Update on trade deal and oil purchase from Venezuela, US Ambassador hints at AI Summit

Since the interim deal between India and America, there has been a lot of speculation about India buying Venezuelan oil. Now US Ambassador Sergio Gore has given a statement on those speculations. He said that talks are going on regarding oil purchase. He said that talks are being held with the Energy Ministry of India regarding Venezuelan oil. He has also given an update on the final trade deal.

Sergio Gaur has given this statement while speaking at the ongoing AI Impact Summit 2026 at India Pavilion in New Delhi. US Ambassador said that there is an agreement on oil. We have seen that India is diversifying its oil. There is a commitment between the two countries.

Statement also given on Russian oil purchase

US Ambassador to India Gore said that stopping the purchase of Russian oil is not just for India, America always wants the war to stop. While talking to reporters, he said that the United States does not want anyone to buy Russian oil. The President has been very clear about this and wants this war to end.

Deal between India and US will be signed soon

He further said that the India-US trade deal is going to be signed soon and the interim agreement is already in force. India signed an interim agreement with the US earlier this month after announcing it in late January. In the interim deal, the Trump Administration reduced the US tariff on India from the earlier 50% to 18%.

Bloomberg reported earlier this month that the government had asked state-owned oil companies to consider buying more crude oil from the US and Venezuela following an interim trade deal in which the Trump administration said India had agreed to cut Russian oil imports.
