A CCTV footage of Moshi area of Pimpri-Chinchwad, Pune is becoming increasingly viral on social media. In this video, a man is seen brutally beating his girlfriend inside a clothing shop. This incident has sparked debate on partner violence, public silence and a legal system that renders victims helpless if they remain silent.
The incident occurred on May 27, 2026, at around 4:47 pm. It is being told that the accused suspected something and entered the clothing shop directly. He first grabbed the girl’s throat and then started beating her badly. When the girl started crying, he dragged her to the ground by her hair. A child present in the shop got scared and hid under the counter. The accused was also seen scaring the child. This fight continued for about four minutes. When everything was over, the man apologized and held the girl’s feet.
When the video went viral online and the police swung into action, the girl flatly refused to lodge a complaint. He described it as his ‘personal matter’. Because of this, the police had no legal basis for arrest and no FIR was registered. The accused is still free.

The shop owners also did not intervene. No one called the police at that time. Even the local police had no idea about it until the video surfaced online. The silence of every adult present there on the four-minute long attack in a busy shop is a question in itself. People are angry at X over this video, some people are blaming the victim and some are asking strange questions. One user angrily asked, “Where were the shopkeepers? Why didn’t they call the police?” Another wrote, “Who gave him the right to raise his hand on a girl?”
But some people vented their anger on the victim only. They’re asking why she didn’t fight back, why she didn’t run away, or why she’s with a man who beats her publicly. Talking about the states, Uttar Pradesh reported the highest number of cases at 66,381, followed by Maharashtra with 47,101, Rajasthan with 45,450, West Bengal with 34,691 and Madhya Pradesh with 32,342.
