Lucknow. The confidence of parents towards the Right to Free and Compulsory Education (RTE) scheme is continuously increasing in Uttar Pradesh. A record number of applications have been received in the first phase of the year 2026–27 under the Right to Education Act. A total of 2,61,501 applications have been received in the first phase this year, while 1,32,446 applications were received in the same period last year in 2025–26. In this way, a huge increase of about 97 percent has been recorded in the applications. This increase shows that the awareness and confidence in quality education among parents of economically weaker and deprived sections is stronger than before.

Yogi government’s initiative: Emphasis on transparency and simplification

Yogi Adityanath government paid special attention to transparency, simple process and extensive awareness campaign in the education sector. The Basic Education Department conducted communication programs for parents. Awareness campaigns were conducted at village and ward level. Also, wide publicity was done at the local level, due to which information about the scheme reached more people. The online application process was also made easy and user friendly. This also gave an opportunity to parents of rural and semi-urban areas to apply without any hassle. Steps like facility of helpdesk, providing timely information and fixing accountability of schools made the entire process more transparent and reliable.

RTE Scheme: Benefits to EWS and DG category children

Under the RTE scheme, children from Economically Weaker Section (EWS) and Deprived Class (DG) are given free admission in private schools. It is clear from the increasing number of applications that now more parents are understanding this opportunity and want to ensure better education for their children. The new education policy, expansion of digital platforms, improvement in infrastructure in schools and special enrollment campaign have together given a strong foundation to inclusive education.

Sign of social change: Increasing awareness towards education

According to officials of the Basic Education Department, the almost double increase in applications is not just a figure, but it is also a sign of positive change in the society. Now parents are considering quality school education as essential for the bright future of their children and are actively coming forward to avail the benefits of the scheme. The government’s aim is that more and more eligible children should get benefits through the RTE scheme and the admission process should remain completely transparent, timely and fair.
