The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) met to review fees, tariffs and user charges on public infrastructure and utilities. Representatives from the Road Transport Ministry and NHAI also attended the meeting chaired by KC Venugopal.

Review of public charges in PAC meeting

New Delhi [भारत]July 15 (ANI): The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) on Wednesday held a meeting in Parliament to examine the collection and regulation of fees, tariffs and user charges on public infrastructure and public utilities.

The meeting, chaired by Congress MP and PAC president KC Venugopal, began with a briefing by audit officials. Thereafter, oral evidence was taken from representatives of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and other concerned organizations.

The Committee is reviewing the subject “Collection and regulation of fees, tariffs, user charges etc. on public infrastructure and other public utilities”. The review is being carried out as part of parliamentary monitoring of public expenditure and infrastructure financing.

This meeting took place after the last meeting of PAC held on July 2. In that meeting the Committee had examined the implementation and effectiveness of centrally sponsored welfare schemes in the education sector. (ANI)
