What is PM RAHAT scheme in which treatment up to Rs 1.5 lakh is free, along with it you get these benefits

Recently the government has announced the PM Relief Scheme.

With an aim to save lives during the golden hour, the government has recently launched the PM Rahat (Road Accident Victim Hospitalization and Assured Treatment) scheme, under which each road accident victim will get cash treatment of up to Rs 1.5 lakh. The scheme, launched last week, will ensure treatment for seven days from the date of the accident and aims to ensure that no victim is deprived of medical care due to financial constraints. The Prime Minister approved this scheme as his first decision after the transfer of the Prime Minister’s Office to Seva Teerth Bhawan. Let us also tell you what is this scheme? Who can apply for this scheme? Also, what kind of benefits will it provide?

Who can apply under PM Relief Scheme?

Under this scheme, all eligible victims of road accidents will get the facility of treatment without cash payment.

According to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, a large number of deaths occur in road accidents in India every year, and “about 50 percent of road accident deaths can be avoided if victims are admitted to hospital within the first hour.”

Integration of the Emergency Response Support System (ERSS) with the 112 helpline ensures access to designated hospitals.

The ministry said road accident victims, passers-by, or any person present at the accident site can dial 112 to get information about the nearest designated hospital and request ambulance assistance.

What is included in the benefit of Rs 1.5 lakh?

Cashless treatment up to Rs 1.5 lakh per victim

Coverage available for 7 days from the date of accident

stabilization treatment

– In case it is not fatal, up to 24 hours

– Up to 48 hours in life-threatening situations

– Treatment is subject to police authentication on integrated digital system

The scheme prioritizes life-saving interventions during the golden hour, when immediate hospitalization can significantly reduce mortality.

How does the cashless claim process work?

PM Relief has been implemented through a tag-based framework, integrating the following:

Electronic Detailed Accident Report (eDAR) platform of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways

National Health Authority Transaction Management System (TMS 2.0)

This integration enables seamless digital connectivity across all processes including accident reporting, hospitalization, police authentication, medical management, claim process and final settlement.

Confirmation by the police is required within the prescribed time limit:

– 24 hours for non-life-threatening cases

– 48 hours for life-threatening cases

– Hospitals will be reimbursed through the Motor Vehicle Accident Fund (MVAF).

– In insured cases, payment will be made from the contributions made by general insurance companies.

– In non-insured and hit and run cases, payment will be made through budget allocation by the Government of India.

The ministry said that claims approved by the state health agency will be paid within 10 days, thereby ensuring financial stability and uninterrupted treatment for hospitals.
